Most populat fold in tie-dyeing is spiral fold. It is easy, quite versatile and it is possible to combine with other folds.

Spiral is best made with damp fabrics, like any other fold. You can use old t-shirt or any other fabrics (new or old)

Do not forget to wash fabrics first.

After that try to imagine how would your t-shirt (farbics)look like. Then determine the center the spiral, pinch the fabric littlebit up and grasp the fold. You can use for it between the center tines of a fork, clothespine or whatever you have securing the center of the spiral)

Twist the fabric with the fork. Be careful by twisting with fork because such item can possibly pierce the T-shirt. Then carefully twist to encourage uniform height of the pleats, after each twist pull the fabric out from the spiral because pleats will have a tendency to get larger. You can remove the fork when you have formed a nice tight center to the spiral.

Or just form spiral with hand.

For binding the spiral you can use rubber bands, string, or another material such as artificial sinew. You will need 6 or 8 rubber bands minimum depending upon the size of the spiral. Slip the rubber bands over the spiral from one side, through the middle and to the opposite side. Try hold the spiral flat.

I decided to use just 2 ruber bands, each quadrant - different color
